Past Event | [Webinar] The Asia Battle: Established vs Upcoming Regional Distribution Hubs

The French Chambers of Commerce in Singapore, Hong Kong and Vietnam co-organised a webinar on "The Asia Battle: Established vs Upcoming Regional Distribution Hubs" on 25 April.

During the webinar, panellists delved into the core of Asia’s logistics and distribution landscape. With a spotlight on the emerging distribution hubs such as Vietnam and the seasoned leaders such as Singapore or Hong Kong, the webinar offered a holistic understanding of the new distribution dynamics in the region.

Thank you to our esteemed speakers Mr. Gregorio Carrasco, Logistic Leader from Decathlon, South East Asia; Ms. Nga Vu, General Manager Vietnam and Cambodia from Dole Sunshine Company and Mr. Kartik Shah, Regional Manager APAC - Logistics from Sennheiser for sharing their insights on various topics, including the rapid ascent of Vietnam as a distribution hub; the strengths and challenges of Singapore and Hong Kong as established giants in the field; a data-driven comparison approach across all hubs looking at critical factors such as infrastructure, regulations, labor force, and connectivity, and investment opportunities in these hubs including government incentives and growth potential.

Many thanks to Mr. Thomas Vermersch, Global Head FMCG Customers from FM Logistic for skilfully moderating the discussion.

Key takeaways:

    1. Vietnam's central position in the Indo-Pacific region offers lucrative opportunities for businesses seeking expansion. With a thriving economy and a growing middle class, Vietnam presents fertile ground for exporters and investors. However, while skilled professionals adept in communication, negotiation, and sourcing are available, their numbers remain constrained.
    2. Hong Kong's illustrious past as a trade hub stems from its advantageous location near mainland China and its diverse talent pool. This combination provides a competitive edge for sourcing operations.
    3. Singapore stands out for its business-friendly environment, bolstered by proactive support from authorities and initiatives such as the AEO agreement with Malaysia-Singapore and participation in trade agreements like RCEP and various FTAs.
