Past Event | Training Academy: Finance for Non-Finance Managers
Professionals from across industries gathered at the French Chamber of Commerce in Singapore for the second session of our Training Academy: Finance for Non-Finance Managers. The full-day programme offered practical tools to strengthen financial knowledge and support informed decision-making.
Led by Sarjit Singh, Director at Deloitte Learning Solutions Southeast Asia, the session aimed to demystify finance for participants without a financial background. Through simple frameworks, real-life case studies, and hands-on exercises, attendees gained practical tools to understand financial reports, interpret key numbers, and confidently discuss finance-related topics within their organisations.
A standout element of the training was Sarjit’s focus on “storytelling with numbers”—helping participants communicate financial insights clearly, persuasively, and in a way that resonates with stakeholders. The course also explored lessons from past financial scandals and corporate failures, emphasising the importance of ethics, governance, and early-warning signs of financial distress.
Participants left the session with the ability to:
- Understand and interpret the three main financial statements
- Analyse key business ratios and financial performance
- Distinguish profit from cash and working capital
- Apply budgeting and forecasting concepts
- Communicate more effectively with finance teams and leadership
- Make better decisions with financial impact in mind
