The Californian startup Friends & Family Pet Food has launched a new range of dog and cat food containing cultivated meat in Singapore, becoming the first company to commercialise this type of product for pets in Asia. The brand offers eight treats made from cultivated poultry, as well as four supplements (“meal toppers”) expected to launch in May.
The meat is produced from quail cells cultivated in a laboratory, then blended with nutritional yeast and various functional ingredients. The products target several health benefits, including digestive support, dental health, coat quality and muscle maintenance. According to founder Joshua Errett, the goal is to offer premium food with genuine nutritional value, rather than simply a “gadget” product.
Unlike other players in the sector that use small quantities of cultivated meat, Friends & Family states that it incorporates up to 70% cultivated meat in some of its products. The treats are sold for around EUR 10 per pack and are positioned in the premium segment of the market.
The company obtained regulatory approval from Singapore's Animal & Veterinary Service (AVS) in 2025, following several months of evaluation. The products are available through the brand's website as well as through the Singaporean distributor VanillaPup. At the Singapore Pet Expo, the company reported selling close to 200 packs, with a strong acceptance rate among pets.
Friends & Family is now planning a funding round of more than EUR 947,000 to accelerate its expansion into other Asian markets and continue developing new recipes based on cultivated meat.
