NUS and JTC Partner to Develop Next-Generation Tropical Data Centre Testbed

The National University of Singapore (NUS) and JTC Corporation have signed a memorandum of understanding to study the establishment of Sustainable Tropical Data Centre Testbed 2.0, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong said at the Jurong Island Anniversary Dinner.

The new testbed will build on earlier work to develop energy‑efficient data centre technologies suited to tropical climates. Gan noted that the project will examine sustainable cooling systems and energy management practices, with the aim of reducing carbon emissions from data centre operations.

Jurong Island was highlighted as a site for advancing low‑carbon infrastructure. Gan pointed to the role of partnerships between government agencies and research institutions in supporting industrial development and sustainability initiatives.

The announcement formed part of Gan’s remarks on Singapore’s long‑term industrial planning, with Jurong Island positioned as a hub for energy, chemicals, and new technologies.
