Past Event – Operating in High-Risk Markets: Counterfeiting, Corruption & Political Instability

The French Chamber of Commerce in Singapore (FCCS) was pleased to host a session on “Operating in High-Risk Markets: Counterfeiting, Corruption & Political Instability,” gathering industry experts to discuss how companies can navigate a complex business environment across the region.
Our sincere thanks to our speakers:
- Albert Wang, CFO Southeast Asia, Legrand
- Herlina Lo, Regional General Counsel, Hermès
Moderator: Carlo D’Amico, Managing Director, Dare to Improve
The discussion opened with an overview of the varying levels of legal and regulatory maturity across markets in the region, and how these differences directly impact exposure to counterfeiting, corruption, and operational risk.
Speakers shared concrete business cases and practical insights on how companies adapt their growth strategies while taking these risks into account.
The session also highlighted the importance of assessing and reacting quickly to political instability when a crisis emerges.
Interesting perspectives were shared from both B2B and B2C environments, comparing Legrand’s industrial approach with Hermès’ luxury retail experience.
A key message throughout the discussion was that compliance must be embedded across the entire organisation, as risk management and ethical practices are essential for sustainable business success.
