Singapore has officially authorised the import of sheep meat from Paraguay, following the issuance of a veterinary certificate at the 93rd General Session of the World Assembly of Delegates of the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH). This certification was presented by the Singaporean veterinary authorities during this international gathering, in the presence of representatives of Paraguay's livestock and agriculture institutions, notably SENACSA and the Rural Association of Paraguay.

This opening is part of a broader Paraguayan strategy aimed at diversifying export outlets for sheep products, a sector that has so far been modest compared with its cattle industry, which remains the main driver of its meat exports. The country recently obtained similar access to Israel in 2025, then to the United Arab Emirates in early 2026, and now Singapore. Exported volumes are expected to remain limited initially, while Paraguayan processing infrastructure obtains the certifications needed to meet international health and logistics requirements.

These new trade flows will primarily target markets with strong demand for lamb and mutton, particularly those requiring halal certification, while beef continues to dominate the Paraguayan sector's export revenues. This development illustrates Paraguay's ambition to become further embedded in global animal protein trade circuits, with Asia identified as a key region for demand in imported meat products.

For European and French producers already positioned in the premium sheep meat segment in Singapore, the arrival of this new South American player highlights the intensifying competition in a particularly strategic import market, one that is demanding in terms of traceability and quality.
