Title : Sparkling wines overtake still wines in Singapore, driven by Champagne
Singapore confirms its position as a mature, premium market for sparkling wines. For the second consecutive year, sparkling wines have overtaken still wines in value, now accounting for just over 52% of the city-state's combined wine import value, a shift that began in 2024.
This change does not, however, reflect an increase in sparkling wine consumption by Singaporeans: imported volumes actually declined in 2025. It instead reflects the local market's steady appetite for Champagne and high-end sparkling wines, as well as France's dominant position across the entire Singapore wine market. Sparkling wine imports had peaked at EUR 440 million in 2023, driven largely by Champagne, before falling back to EUR 348 million in 2024, the year in which sparkling wines overtook still wines for the first time.
Singapore also plays the role of a regional hub for wine trading and storage, which partly explains the gap between import data and actual domestic consumption: some of the imported volumes are kept in bonded warehouses, acquired for private collections, or re-exported to other Southeast Asian markets such as Indonesia, Malaysia, or even India. The structure of alcohol taxation in Singapore may also be encouraging this trend toward premiumisation.
This dynamic confirms the potential of the Singapore market for French producers of Champagne and high-end sparkling wines, in a context where quality and rarity take precedence over volume.
