Past Event | Inspirational Women Leaders' Series #7
Thank you very much to our esteemed speakers, Marie-Louise Philippe, Senior Sales Director at Airbus Commercial Aircraft and Lynette Tan, CEO of Space Faculty, CEO of Singapore Space & Technology Ltd, for their inspiring and authentic contributions in sharing their career highlights as well as their challenges and aspirations for women in leadership. Thank you also to Anne Tan, Head of HR APAC at Campari, for skilfully moderating the session.
Please find below a few takeaways:
- Conversations and dialogues that shape the future start at home. By consciously avoiding gender stereotypes in our discussions and activities with the next generation, we can free them from preconceived notions of what they should or shouldn't do, or what they are capable of
- All leaders have a responsibility to make a difference by ensuring equal pay based on performance, regardless of gender. It is crucial not to assume that someone's ambitions are diminished due to personal circumstances or life stage. Make sure to engage in conversations with them and encourage talented individuals to step up for the next role or opportunity, even if they are uncertain
- Diversity needs to be consciously managed by leaders with a focus on diverse skill sets. Whilst smaller organizations may find the need for diversity more challenging, all companies should proactively understand their diversity requirements well in advance of recruitment, while also developing internal diverse talents years ahead of their actual need
- Establish a timeline for your goals and aspirations. Be bold about what is important to you and move on if things don’t work out, as sometimes you cannot change the system . You will find eventually organizations and people you will resonate with
- Continuous upskilling will help your journey towards senior leadership
- Be heard and be seen: self-advocacy, speaking on panel discussions and networking are all important
- Don’t try to be perfect. You can't do it all. Put in place a support system to support your professional and personal life.
