Past Event| Materiality Assessment 101: Introduction and Best Practices

Thank you to Ivona Balint-Kowalczyk, Founder of Sustainao, for leading this informative workshop about the Materiality Assessment at the French Chamber of Commerce.

Here are some key learnings:

  • Materiality Assessment is one of the fundamental steps for companies to build a sustainability strategy and roadmap.
  • There are two main approaches of materiality in the context of sustainability: financial materiality and impact materiality. The combination of two is called ‘double materiality’.
  • Companies, especially SMEs, can start with simple steps such as conducting industry benchmarking and engaging internal stakeholders to identify the most relevant ESG issues.
  • A comprehensive materiality assessment process is recommended for companies that are more advanced in their sustainability strategy, including surveys and interviews with key stakeholders.
  • And keep in mind that the end goal is identifying the ESG issues that have the most significant impact, which will help you better concentrate your sustainability efforts.
