CNRS@CREATE Launches Franco-Singaporean Research Project on Human-Robot Collaboration

CNRS@CREATE has officially launched a new four-year research project titled Embodied AI for Human-Robot Collaborative Task Execution, marking a significant step in Franco-Singaporean scientific collaboration.
Initiated in January 2026 and celebrated with a launch meeting in Singapore on January 28, the project is coordinated by CNRS@CREATE in partnership with the National Robotics Programme Singapore. It aims to advance the integration of AI-based perception, reasoning and planning with machine learning-driven manipulation to enable coordinated task execution between humans and robots.
The research focuses on developing foundational capabilities for human-robot collaboration, with applications in robot-assisted maintenance and repair of complex industrial equipment. The project combines medium-term planning through AI models with short-term execution capabilities to enhance real-world operational performance.
Led by Prof. Archan Misra from Singapore Management University and Prof. Liming Chen from Centrale Lyon, the initiative brings together leading research institutions from both countries, including CNRS, Centrale Lyon, Université de Montpellier, Centrale Nantes and ENSTA in France, as well as the National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore Management University and A*STAR in Singapore.
The project is supported by the National Research Foundation Singapore under the CREATE programme, reinforcing Singapore’s position as a hub for advanced research and innovation.
