How Schneider and Samsung Are Solving the Smart Building Gap

Schneider Electric and Samsung provide tools to make smart buildings a key part of sustainability

Schneider Electric and Samsung partner to address smart-building fragmentation, enabling scalable energy management for sustainability

In the race toward net zero, the built environment remains one of the most significant and stubborn hurdles.

The vision of cities filled with smart buildings is hindered by fragmented proprietary systems, inaccessible data and limited interoperability.

A new partnership between Schneider Electric and Samsung seeks to transform energy management in residential and commercial settings.

Schneider Electric’s SpaceLogic KNX building automation portfolio is now compatible with Samsung’s SmartThings and SmartThings Pro platforms.

The end of system fragmentation

Managing energy across multiple locations presents significant logistical challenges for facility managers.

Separate controls for lighting, HVAC, and security from various manufacturers prevent unified performance monitoring and lead to missed opportunities.

Centralising Schneider's SpaceLogic KNX devices within a single SmartThings dashboard provides managers with real-time visibility into metrics such as occupancy, blind status, and temperature control across operations.

“Interoperability has become increasingly important in both residential and commercial environments, where customers expect connected systems to work together seamlessly,” says Laurent Roussel, SVP Commercial & Channel at Schneider Electric.

This integration enables homeowners to manage SpaceLogic KNX solutions alongside other smart appliances and electronics through the SmartThings app.

Residents can more easily personalise automation, gain greater insight into energy usage, and make sustainable living the standard rather than the exception.

By addressing system fragmentation, Schneider Electric and Samsung provide the tools needed to make smart buildings a foundational element of global sustainability efforts.

Practical solutions on a budget

This announcement is the latest in a series from Samsung that connects its SmartThings platform to additional third-party products. Last month, Samsung announced enhanced integrations with IKEA’s smart home product line.

Samsung now supports SmartThings integration with IKEA’s Matter-over-Thread digital home devices, including smart bulbs and plugs.

“By connecting IKEA devices to SmartThings, even first-time smart home users can enjoy a familiar and easy connectivity experience without financial burden,” said Jaeyeon Jung, Executive Vice President of SmartThings, AI Platform Centre at Samsung Electronics.

“SmartThings will continue to expand its ecosystem through partnerships, enabling more consumers to enjoy seamless and convenient smart home experience within the SmartThings ecosystem regardless of brand or communication protocol."
