Past Event | A conversation with Mr Ravi Menon, Singapore's Ambassador for Climate Action

Thank you to Mr Ravi Menon, Singapore’s Ambassador for Climate Action, for an insightful conversation on the opportunities and challenges of advancing sustainability in an increasingly complex global landscape.
Following opening remarks by Mr Stéphane Latouche, Chief Representative for Asia and the Pacific at Banque de France, the discussion explored how governments, businesses and investors can work together to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy while driving innovation, resilience and long-term growth.
Moderated by Mr Yoon Kim, Cluster President – Singapore, Malaysia & Brunei at Schneider Electric, the dialogue was dynamic and engaging, sparking numerous questions and exchanges with the audience.
Key Takeaways from the dialogue:
- Achieving economic growth while decisively investing in decarbonisation and adaptation is Southeast Asia’s defining climate challenge. As Southeast Asia continues to grow, the region must find ways to achieve low-carbon growth while maintaining competitiveness, supporting local communities to strengthen their climate resilience.
- Singapore’s approach to climate action is regional and collaborative. As a trade, logistics, and financial hub, Singapore is uniquely positioned to partner your company to support Southeast Asia’s decarbonisation through regional partnerships, green finance, technology and investment.
- Financing and technology will be critical to turning climate ambitions into action. Mobilising private capital, using public funding to de-risk investments and accelerating technological innovation will be essential, particularly in energy efficiency, renewables, energy storage and lower-carbon infrastructure.
- The transition requires businesses to look beyond their own operations. Understanding and reducing Scope 1, 2 and particularly Scope 3 emissions will be increasingly important, requiring companies to study their value chains and make longer-term investment decisions to secure their resilience and competitiveness, even where this may involve short-term costs.
- Climate adaptation must advance alongside decarbonisation. Rising heat, sea levels, flooding and drought will require significant investment and new approaches to urban planning, infrastructure, food resilience and insurance.
