During Singapore FinTech Festival Week, the French Chamber of Commerce organised an insightful discussion on the evolving regulatory landscape of fintech in Singapore.
Held at K&L Gates Straits Law, the session provided a comprehensive overview of the Monetary Authority of Singapore’s (MAS) approach to fostering innovation in fintech while maintaining a robust regulatory framework.
Thank you to our panellists—Lucas Nicolet-Serra (K&L Gates Straits Law), SinYee Koh (Integrity Consulting), Olivier Dauw (Aspire), and moderator Nicolas Gallet (Gallet Capital)—for sharing their valuable insights on key topics like digital payment services, crypto-assets, and regulatory sandboxes. They highlighted MAS's efforts to balance innovation with financial risk management, with the regulatory sandbox identified as a vital tool for fintech firms to test new solutions under regulatory oversight.
A highlight of the discussion was the in-depth exploration of MAS’s efforts to create a balance between encouraging innovation and safeguarding against financial risks. The regulatory sandbox was discussed as a key enabler for startups and established fintech companies to test new products and services in a controlled environment, allowing for flexibility while maintaining regulatory oversight.
The session also touched on the practical challenges fintech companies face in navigating Singapore’s regulatory environment. From keeping up with the pace of regulatory changes to ensuring compliance in an increasingly complex digital landscape, panellists shared real-world case studies of companies successfully adapting to these challenges. This provided the audience with tangible lessons on how to better align business strategies with regulatory requirements.
Throughout the event, participants gained a clearer understanding of how to leverage opportunities in Singapore’s dynamic fintech ecosystem while staying ahead of regulatory changes.
