Past Event | Scope 2 Reform & Renewable Energy Sourcing: Preparing for What’s Next

A full-house session for our latest discussion on the evolving direction of Scope 2 accounting under the GHG Protocol, bringing together market operators, developers, and clean energy experts.
Our sincere thanks to our speakers: Roy Peng, Head of Business Development, Energy Market Company;Lorenzo Mancini, Head of Power Sales and Marketing, Peak Energy; Jane Tay, Founder & Principal Advisor, Clean Energy SEA; and our moderator, Henry Eu, Head of Policy & Development (Singapore, Malaysia), Asia Clean Energy Coalition.
The discussion opened with a scene-setting overview of the proposed shift from annual renewable energy matching toward more granular accounting, including hourly matching and deliverability requirements. While not a procurement mandate, the reform is expected to reshape how companies credibly claim renewable electricity use.
Speakers explored how this evolution could significantly impact procurement strategies, PPA structuring, storage integration, and overall system flexibility. Moving forward, renewable energy sourcing may need to align more closely with real-time consumption patterns rather than relying solely on certificates.
The panel also addressed regional implications. In Southeast Asia, where renewable resources and demand centres are unevenly distributed, cross-border electricity trade and initiatives such as the ASEAN Power Grid may become increasingly important to ensure a credible and deliverable clean energy supply.
Key takeaways:
- Scope 2 reform is shifting from annual matching toward timing and deliverability.
- Renewable procurement strategies may need to become more operational and system-oriented.
- Storage, hybrid projects, and grid flexibility will play a growing role.
- Regional interconnection could become critical for achieving credible 24/7 clean energy.
