Mr Francis Tang has 20 years of professional experience in the marine and offshore industry and today he is leading the Commercial activities of Bureau Veritas Marine (Singapore) Pte Ltd. Mr Tang has a strong interest in shipbuilding and he started out his career in the technical design department handling newbuilding projects at a local shipyard in Singapore where he was involved in basic engineering, seatrials and vessel deliveries.


Mr Tang also has experience working in Classification Societies handling design approvals for
newbuilding and conversion projects. During this time, he built up extensive knowledge and expertise with regards to Classification Rules and IMO Regulations. Mr Tang was also the lead author for technical papers dealing with IMO regulations on specialized offshore vessels. He also has experience working in steering committees for Rule development of Class Societies.
In 2010 Mr Tang worked for an international ship design company and he was one of the pioneers who developed the conceptual design for bulk carrier engine room conversion from conventional diesel propulsion to LNG (gas) propulsion together with a major shipyard in Japan. In 2012, Mr Francis Tang was nominated by Singapore’s Maritime and Port Authority to be part of the MINT Fund approving committee on a three-year tenure overseeing R&D grants of SGD100 million.
From 2017 onwards, Mr Francis Tang was based in Shanghai, China where he was heading the business units of listed multinationals Cargotec and MAN Energy Solutions Asia Pacific.
Mr Tang is fluent in Mandarin and can converse technically on ship related matters in Mandarin and
English. He is a naval architect by training from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne with a Master’s Degree from NUS.
