ENGIE Announces Leadership Transition to Support Southeast Asia Growth Ambitions

ENGIE, a global leader in low-carbon energy and services, today announced a strategic leadership appointment to drive its next phase of growth in Southeast Asia's fast-evolving energy landscape. Jacques Boonen has been appointed Managing Director, Local Energy Infrastructures for ENGIE in Southeast Asia, effective 1st August 2025.

Jacques brings deep expertise in strategy and sustainable transformation. Since joining ENGIE in 2008, he has held senior leadership roles across France, Belgium, and North America, including Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer for ENGIE France Renewables and CEO of ENGIE Impact, the Group's sustainability advisory arm. He succeeds Pierre Cheyron, who has taken on the role of Vice President, Marketing & Sales, Local Energy Infrastructures at the Group level.

"I am honoured to lead ENGIE at such a pivotal point in Southeast Asia's energy transition," said Jacques Boonen. "Pierre Cheyron and Thomas Baudlot have laid a strong foundation for our operations, and I look forward to deepening our presence in the region. Southeast Asia is a strategic growth market for ENGIE, and I am excited to scale our Local Energy Infrastructure business through practical solutions like district cooling, onsite renewables, onsite utilities, and energy efficiency."

“I’m pleased to welcome Jacques and look forward to working closely together as we expand ENGIE’s reach across Southeast Asia,” said Varun Gujral, Country Manager for Southeast Asia and CEO of Supply & Energy Management for APAC, ENGIE. "This next phase of leadership reinforces our long-term ambition to deliver impactful, integrated solutions that help our clients decarbonise with confidence." Varun has led ENGIE’s regional expansion since being appointed as Country Head in 2024, delivering strong growth and market presence.

These senior appointments reinforce ENGIE’s commitment to Southeast Asia, as the Group continues to partner with customers on their energy transition journey.
