Focus 81 | TotalEnergies - Empowering Businesses through Solar Energy

What are the vision and mission of TotalEnergies in the renewable energy sector, particularly within the Asia-Pacific region?

TotalEnergies is today one of the world’s largest renewable investors. The Company aims to grow our overall power generation capacity to 100 TWh by 2030, and to be the world's top 5 renewable producers. TotalEnergies Renewables Distributed Generation (DG), with our regional office in Singapore, is dedicated to providing distributed solar energy for B2B customers and continues to expand our footprint regionally.

In 2022, TotalEnergies established a 50/50 joint venture with ENEOS Corporation, aiming to jointly develop 2 GW in the region over the next 5 years. Today, we are present in 11 countries in APAC, with over 300 MW in operation and under construction. Globally, we are well recognised.  In a recent study by AFRY Management Consulting, TotalEnergies DG ranked second worldwide in terms of installed capacity (1.1 GW).

Can you share more about your business model?

We offer customised, competitive solutions to our B2B customers through long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs). From development, financing, and construction, to the operations of installed solar PV systems, we provide end-to-end support for our customers. Customers enjoy immediate cost savings as they only need to pay for the power generated while meeting their sustainability goals. Since 2022, we have expanded our business mix to include Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), floating technology, agri-PV projects, and offsite solutions, allowing TotalEnergies to be the one-stop solutions provider for our customers’ solar needs.

What are some of the challenges TotalEnergies faces in this industry, and how are you addressing them?

We are seeing exponential growth in renewable projects regionally as countries focus on achieving their net zero ambition targets. This also translated to challenges and opportunities that can potentially arise. One key challenge is navigating regulatory changes across different countries. We help customers adapt to these changes, ensuring compliance and optimising their renewable energy solutions, with a dedicated customer success team. We are constantly adapting our business model, tailoring solutions to customers’ specific needs and local regulations while anticipating new market trends. Our regional footprint and expertise enable us to leverage the variety of experienced solutions to support both customisation to local environment and standardisation across countries for our regional customers, maintaining high HSE standards.

This year, TotalEnergies celebrates our centenary, reflecting on our historical pioneering spirit. This pioneering spirit drives our mission to tackle climate change and lead the energy transition in the APAC region. Following our joint venture with ENEOS, we are scaling up and accelerating our business growth with new partnerships and asset acquisitions.

Do you have anything to say to potential clients?

As a major player in renewables, we leverage our extensive experience in distributed generation to help customers diversify their energy sources with environmentally responsible solutions. We are focused on helping them achieve their decarbonisation goals. TotalEnergies aims to be your choice partner in this transition, supporting you every step of the way.
