Join our upcoming In-House Counsel Club to discuss CSRD, CBAM, Deforestation & Forced Labour

Sustainability considerations are becoming essential across businesses of all sizes and 2023 was, by all metrics, a watershed year for ESG-related developments in the EU.

2024 is marked by:

  • the roll-out of ESG-related disclosure framework of the EU CSR directive (CSRD) which requires companies to report on their sustainability performance, including their social and environmental impacts.
  • the gradual application of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) under which EU importers will have to submit reports on the scope of embedded emissions in certain goods they have imported
  • the application of the social taxonomy and deforestation regulations.

The application of these regulations will have onerous consequences for EU companies and their subsidiaries (in terms of reporting on their sustainable development performance and monitoring their supply chain) but also for non-EU companies that are connected to the EU markets in some ways.

During this event, Yvon Martinet, Partner at DS Avocats in Paris, will:

  • explain the requirements to publish sustainability information subject to an evolving timetable and progress thresholds under the CSRD and streamlining the extra-financial transparency mechanism;
  • help companies be CBAM ready;
  • explain the consequences of the forced labour and deforestation regulations on companies based in ASEAN
