What would the operation systems of smart and autonomous ships look like in the future?

What would the operation systems of smart and autonomous ships look like in the future?

Over the years, we see continuous increase in maritime automation with the application and development of smart technologies. It can be argued that the most unique areas for autonomous ships are increased safety, low or no crew requirements, Fuel and OpEx savings and efficient ship design. With ships being large and expensive assets, there are however several potential blockers that need to be considered when rolling out autonomy solutions, including some technical, organisational and regulatory aspects. Thus, what needs to be considered as important components?

The future of the industry will depend on all stakeholders collaborating in the transformation of the transport systems to encourage development of connected and automated operations. In this committee meeting, join our experts in the field to explore how they will work towards building smart and autonomous vessels and ports.
