Past Event | Engineering the Future: A Site Visit to the ENGIE District Cooling System

Throwback on our latest Sustainable Business Committee site visit to the ENGIE District Cooling System at the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT), sponsored by our Committee Partner ENGIE

We recently gathered at the heart of Singapore’s first smart business district in Punggol for a behind-the-scenes look at the 𝗘𝗡𝗚𝗜𝗘–SINGAPORE INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY (SIT) 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 (𝗗𝗖𝗦). This visit offered our members a firsthand view of the infrastructure powering the SIT Punggol Campus.

The ENGIE-SIT DCS is a prime example of sustainable urban planning. By utilizing a centralized network to distribute chilled water, the system achieves up to 30% higher energy efficiency than traditional standalone air-conditioning units.

The session featured deep dives into both the commercial strategy and the technical mechanics of the plant:

  • Business Model & Value Proposal: ENGIE shared insights into the economic and environmental value proposition of cooling networks in modern urban landscapes.

  • Technical Walkdown: attendees got an engaging tour of the plant room, complemented by a presentation on the advanced monitoring systems that ensure peak performance and reliability.

This visit highlighted the vital role that innovative engineering and public-private partnerships play in Singapore's journey toward a greener future.
