Circonomy and Narmada Bio-Chem Limited Enter Agreement to Develop Integrated Industrial Biochar Facility and Biochar-Based Fertiliser Products

Circonomy, a Biochar Carbon Removal (CDR) project developer, and Narmada Bio-Chem Limited (NBCL), a leading Indian fertiliser manufacturing and marketing company, today announced that they have entered into an agreement to develop a fully integrated, industrial-scale biochar facility within NBCL’s operations.
Under this agreement, Circonomy and NBCL will develop a biochar project that converts agricultural biomass into high-quality biochar. The production will be integrated into NBCL’s existing product portfolio and commercialised as biochar-based fertiliser and soil enhancement products, distributed through NBCL’s distribution network.
The project is designed to serve a dual objective: strengthening soil health and crop productivity for farmers at scale, while delivering durable carbon removal through biochar production. By embedding biochar directly into NBCL’s fertiliser manufacturing and marketing ecosystem, the partnership aims to accelerate adoption of biochar-based inputs across Indian agriculture.
Circonomy will support the project’s design, industrial deployment, certification, technology integration, and project monitoring. NBCL will lead product formulation, and commercialisation, leveraging its four manufacturing units and 1,500+ distributors to scale biochar adoption across India.
Guided by its motto, “Zameen Balwaan toh Kisan Dhanwaan” (Healthy soil makes a farmer wealthy), NBCL has long focused on improving soil health and farmer livelihoods. This partnership builds on that commitment by introducing biochar as a new, scalable input that supports sustainable agriculture and long-term climate impact.
