CMA CGM Achieves First Biomethanol Bunkering for Its Fleet with CMA CGM OSMIUM

CMA CGM has reached a new milestone in maritime decarbonization as the CMA CGM OSMIUM becomes the first vessel in the Group’s fleet to run on biomethanol.

More than 3,600 tons of biomethanol were bunkered for the vessel at Shanghai’s Yangshan Port, marking the largest single biomethanol bunkering operation ever carried out at a Chinese port.

Biomethanol is considered a low-carbon fuel capable of delivering lifecycle greenhouse gas emission reductions of up to 65% compared with conventional marine fuels.

This operation represents a significant step in CMA CGM’s roadmap toward Net Zero Carbon by 2050. The initiative was carried out in collaboration with Shanghai International Port (Group) Co., Ltd (SIPG Energy) and Shanghai Electric Group Co., Ltd, contributing to the development of a scalable biomethanol supply chain for the maritime industry.
