Launch of the Country Biodiversity Risk Index (CBRI) to Strengthen Nature-Related Risk Assessment

Assessing biodiversity-related risks is a growing challenge, addressed through the development of the new Country Biodiversity Risk Index (CBRI).

The CBRI framework has been developed to help assess biodiversity risks at the country level. By combining current biodiversity values with forward-looking risk factors, it provides a clear picture of nature-related exposure, enabling better risk management, stronger due diligence, and compliance with emerging disclosure standards.

Based on 43 indicators, the CBRI evaluates ecosystem health, including the integrity of forests, wetlands and marine environments; species conservation status, examining extinction risks and threat severity; anthropogenic pressures, identifying human activities driving biodiversity loss from deforestation to pollution; and protection measures, assessing how effectively countries safeguard natural resources.

The framework is being made publicly available to support the broader community of financial institutions and stakeholders working on nature-related risk management.
