Tuas Power and EDF signed a Memorandum of Understanding on April 22 2021 in an exclusive partnership to develop Electric Vehicle (EV) charging facilities in Singapore in support of the government’s plan to roll out 60,000 EV charging stations by 2030, of which 20,000 will be located in private premises.

The government has been encouraging the conversion of vehicles on the road into EVs as well as the installation of charging stations within business venues. This partnership aims to increase the availability of charging points which will be key to unlocking the mass adoption of EVs in Singapore.

As Singapore’s market leader in power generation and electricity retailing, Tuas Power will be able to reach out to its large customer base from various sectors such as logistics and supermarket chains to convert their fleet into electric vehicles. Tuas Power will install more EV charging stations on the premises of building owners such as shopping malls, commercial buildings and petrol stations to make it accessible and convenient for drivers to charge their EVs.

“This partnership with EDF offers another energy solution to our customers who are already enjoying energy efficiency through our Green Programme and Integrated Energy Management System. When we install more EV charging facilities, we bring convenience to businesses and even individuals like you and me,” said Mr. Michael Wong, Chief Operating Officer, Tuas Power.

As Europe’s leader in e-mobility with numerous projects on smart charging systems, hooking up of electric cars to the power grid, and supplying of electricity to vehicles, EDF will play a pivotal role in driving this transformation in the Singapore market. To this end, EDF will mobilize its comprehensive expertise in electric mobility, in particular through its Singapore-based research and development center.

“This partnership with Tuas Power is in line with EDF Group’s ambition for the development of Electric Mobility. By providing innovative technology and solutions to the customers; which allows for the execution of smarter, greener and faster charging of electrical vehicles around the island, we hope that this will lead to greater adoption of Electric Vehicles by Singaporeans in the near future. We are proud to contribute to this development, as the decarbonization of energy and transportation is at the heart of our business ambition” said Mr. Jean-Philippe Buisson, Senior Vice President (Asia), International Division, EDF.
