The French Chamber of Commerce in Singapore (FCCS) was pleased to host a high-level discussion on “The Future of Maritime: How AI Is Shaping the Industry”, organised by the Maritime & Offshore Committee and supported by our Committee Partner, IEC Telecom.
Our sincere thanks to our speakers:
- Alexandre Stegner, CEO & Co-Founder, Amphitrite
- Julien Metayer, Global Client Manager, A.P. Moller – Maersk
- Moderator: Nidhi Gupta, CEO, Portcast
The session explored how artificial intelligence is already transforming the maritime industry, with concrete applications across route optimisation, fuel efficiency, voyage planning, weather predictability, and operational performance. Speakers shared how AI solutions are delivering tangible benefits today, improving cost efficiency, sustainability outcomes, and schedule reliability across different segments of the maritime value chain.
Discussions also focused on how companies approach the implementation of AI, from pilot projects to operational deployment. Key topics included the integration of AI into existing systems, the balance between building in-house capabilities versus partnering with technology providers, and how adoption strategies differ depending on company size, maturity, and risk appetite.
The panel addressed the role of AI in managing uncertainty, including so-called “black swan” scenarios, highlighting how data-driven decision-making can enhance anticipation and resilience, while reinforcing that human expertise remains central to final decision-making and accountability.
Change management emerged as a critical success factor, with speakers emphasizing the importance of people, trust, and governance in AI adoption. Ensuring transparency, user adoption, and human control over automated systems was identified as essential to unlocking long-term value from AI technologies.
Key takeaways:
- AI is already delivering measurable value across maritime operations today.
- Successful implementation requires clear use cases, robust integration, and change management.
- Human expertise remains essential, with AI acting as a decision-support tool.
- Adoption strategies vary by company scale, maturity, and organisational readiness.
A heartfelt thank you to our speakers and IEC Telecom for supporting this insightful discussion.
