Saving Women’s lives: Transforming Health, Nurturing Wellbeing

The "Saving Women's Lives" Fundraising Gala Dinner is the inaugural outreach event of a joint international initiative between the Global Centre for Asian Women's Health (GloW) at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS), and Institut Santé des Femmes (Institute for Women’s Health) at the Faculty of Health, Université Paris Cité. This gala is scheduled to take place on 11 May 2024 in Singapore, as part of the Voilah! France-Singapore Festival. It is inspired by the success of the “Sauver la Vie” campaign initiated by the Université Paris Cité Foundation. ELLE Singapore is the gala’s media partner.

The primary objective of “Saving Women’s Lives” is to celebrate the partnership of GloW and Institut Santé des Femmes in their mission to promote women’s health and wellbeing over their lifespan. Specifically, the event aims to spotlight the prevention of early screening of major causes of deaths among women such as heart diseases and cancers, and the promotion of maternal and child health for our future generations, a critical area of concern for global public health.

This networking dinner will facilitate in-depth discussions and collaboration among medical experts, clinicians, artist, business executives, researchers, and health advocates, fostering a conducive environment for future initiatives.

Focusing on the theme of "Transforming Health, Maximizing Potentials, Nurturing Wellbeing" the event will highlight the following key areas:

  • Prevention and early detection of Non-Communicable Diseases: Emphasise the importance of preventive measures and early intervention in addressing noncommunicable diseases such as heart diseases and cancers that affect women and in promoting maternal and child health for our future generations.
  •  Interdisciplinary and intersectoral collaboration: The event will bring together medical professionals specialising in women's health, alongside prominent figures from different sectors, including the arts and media, to foster a multidisciplinary approach to women's health and wellbeing issues.
  • Education and Research: Funds raised during the gala will support collaborative research projects and educational initiatives between GloW and Institut Santé des Femmes, aiming to advance knowledge and practices for women’s health and wellbeing.

Global Vision: Recognizing that women's health is a universal concern, the event will promote cross-border partnerships, knowledge exchange, public awareness to address challenges faced by women worldwide. The objective is to use that awareness to shape and impact policymaking. Taking into account GloW’s mission, particular attention will be given to Asian women and vulnerable populations in Low and middle income countries.

Expected Outcomes:

The aim of the organisation of an annual gala, is to obtain financial support and elevate publicity for implementing collaborative efforts between the two institutes. Saving Women’s lives and promoting wellbeing also hopes to strengthen relationships between medical professionals, public figures and organizations, driving efforts in women’s health advancement.

The event will also raise public awareness about the importance of preventive measures and primordial risk factors in women’s health without putting the emphasis on the negative aspects non-communicable diseases. Our goal is to encourage women to proactively manage their well-being, steering away from campaigns that instil fear, and instead, championing messages of courage and self-empowerment.

Our collective mission is to forge a lasting imprint on the lives and wellbeing of women globally. Together, we possess the capacity to empower women, revolutionize healthcare, maximize potentials and ultimately, safeguard and enhance lives.
