DSTA partners SAFRAN on smart technologies and talent development
Singapore’s Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) and France’s Safran Electronics & Defense have entered into a collaboration to leverage smart technologies and nurture local talent.
Following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the sidelines of the Singapore Defence Technology Summit* 2023, DSTA and Safran Electronics & Defense will collaborate on efforts to ensure improved performance, availability and sustainability of their platforms operated by the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF).
The MOU will also pave the way for both organisations to explore smart technologies such as computer vision for defence applications, through the sharing of R&D outcomes and long-term capability roadmaps, as well as potential integration into existing or new systems operated by the SAF.
In addition, the partnership will further strengthen the set-up of local technical support and talent development initiatives including internship opportunities, as well as knowledge sharing courses.
“This partnership with Safran Electronics & Defense will see the strengthening of local technical support, which in turn, help enhance the availability and sustainability of their systems operated by the Singapore Armed Forces. It will also place focus on strengthening efforts and accelerate the application of smart technologies such as computer vision to our defence systems. As a technology organisation, innovation sits at the heart of everything in DSTA. Growing our knowledge with some of the best minds in the industry will inspire us to constantly innovate and improve our defence systems to give the SAF the technological edge,” said Mr Roy Chan, DSTA’s Deputy Chief Executive (Operations).
“This memorandum of understanding between DSTA and Safran Electronics & Defense sets a strong and long-term collaboration, offering sovereignty solutions to the armed forces with new-generation of equipment and systems”, added Frédéric Mazzanti, Defense Division Director of Safran Electronics & Defense.
