LVMH and its Maisons reaffirm environmental commitments around creative circularity and transparency during ChangeNOW summit

LVMH again took part in the international ChangeNOW summit, the largest event of solutions for the planet, which was held at the Grand Palais Éphémère in Paris on March 25-27.

During the summit LVMH reaffirmed its commitments around creative circularity, one of the pillars of the LIFE 360 (LVMH Initiatives for the Environment) program launched in 2021. Hélène Valade, Environmental Development Director of the LVMH Group, took part in a round table on eco-circularity alongside Sophie Pignères, founder and CEO of WeTurn, and Romain Brabo, co-founder and co-CEO of Nona Source, two startups with which the Group has worked for several years.

Hélène Valade reiterated the Group’s commitments to creative circularity within the framework of its LIFE 360 (LVMH Initiatives For the Environment) program, launched in 2021. LVMH has achieved its 2023 goal of introducing new circular services following the creation of ‘repair and care’ task forces by several of its brands. LVMH has also announced the creation of LVMH Circularity, an ecosystem that consolidates the expertise of the Group and its partners in reuse and recycling (Nona Source, the CEDRE platform, Weturn, Agence du Don en Nature). The solutions available via this structure enable LVMH to give a second life to fabric and leather offcuts, unused raw materials and unsold products.

Also during the summit, Nona Source, a pioneer in creative reuse of luxury materials, announced a series of major initiatives to support sustainable innovation and excellence in fashion and design. They included an expansion of its showroom and a new exclusive selection of high-quality surplus leathers. What’s more, Nona Source is making its solution available to luxury brands outside LVMH seeking solutions for recycling or reuse of surplus fabrics from previous collections.

Alexandre Capelli, LVMH Deputy Director of Environmental Development, spoke during the panel “Collaborative pathways to the One Water Summit: innovative solutions for the net zero water agenda”. Introduced by Barbara Pompili, special envoy of French President Emmanuel Macron to the One Water Summit, the session was an opportunity to explore the potential for collaborations bringing together the private sector, NGOs and financial players in the area of drinkable water, one of the most pressing challenges facing the international community.

A highlight of the ChangeNOW summit was SEPHORA’s unveiling of its new global seals “Clean at SEPHORA” and “Planet Aware at SEPHORA”.  Through this global initiative SEPHORA is harmonizing the way it communicates on the formulations and environmental commitments of products from the brands it offers across all markets worldwide. This approach includes the use of visual seals in order to provide clarity and consistency to customers both in-store and online. As a beauty leader, SEPHORA is committed to providing customers with greater transparency and to driving a positive path for the entire cosmetics industry.

Guillaume Motte, President and CEO of SEPHORA, said: “As the world’s leading omnichannel prestige beauty retailer, we have a major responsibility to involve our partners and our teams in achieving challenging goals. SEPHORA is committed to making more sustainable choices more accessible for our customers and brand partners and driving positive influence, and these new seals are a significant step in that direction.”

Frédéric Dufour, President and CEO of Ruinart, Pierre Louette, President and CEO of Groupe Les Echos-Le Parisien, Guillaume Motte, President and CEO of Sephora, Sandrine Sommer, Chief Sustainability Officer of Mo‘t Hennessy, Julie Coulot, ESG Investor Manager, LVMH Financial Communications, and Deborah Yeh, Sephora Global Chief Marketing Officer, all spoke during panel discussions at the event.
