Past event| A close-door dialogue with Zaqy Mohamad, Senior Minister of State for Manpower of Singapore

The French Chamber of Commerce Singapore held a closed-door engagement and discussion with the Ministry of Manpower (MOM).

MOM has reasserted with the recent announcement of work pass to strengthen Singapore’s position as a talent hub and that Singapore is committed to remaining open to the world.

MOM shared details on the new Overseas Networks & Expertise (ONE) Pass and updates on the EP framework and on #Forward SG.

The French Chamber's President, Thomas Baudlot, then invited Mr. Zaqy Mohamad, Senior Minister of State for Manpower, Ministry of Manpower (MOM), to a dialogue in which he explained:

  • By providing consistent and transparent manpower policies, Singapore is hoping to give confidence, allow companies the ability to plan and remain competitive to attract talent
  • Importance of social compact: Community, politics, economy and businesses have all to be taken into consideration to find the right balance
  • In terms of improving the mobility of the local workforce, the recommendation is to offer positions abroad early in the career (when they are young) and to set clear expectations
  • Strategic interest from Singapore to find alternative solutions to improve productivity and to develop automatization to be sustainable in the long term

Followed by a very interactive session and Q/A with the audience with questions from the hospitality, construction, tech and retail industries.
