Past Event: A Conversation with Mr. Jopy Chiang, Deputy Chief Investment Officer from Keppel
Thank you to Mr. Jopy Chiang, Deputy Chief Investment Officer of Keppel Ltd and Chief Investment Officer, Infrastructure for an insightful fireside chat on Keppel’s transformation into a global asset manager and operator with a clear focus on sustainability, innovation, and long-term value creation.
This session was moderated by Mr. James Koh, Head of Corporate Coverage for Singapore and Southeast Asia at Crédit Agricole CIB
Key Insights from the Session:
- Keppel’s Integrated Model: Developer – Operator – Manager
Mr. Chiang detailed Keppel’s unique Developer-Operator-Manager (DOM) model, which integrates asset creation, operations, and fund management. This model enables the company to originate proprietary deals, create value through operational improvements, and realize returns through strategic divestments. - A Global Asset Manager with Deep Operating Capabilities
With S$88 billion in funds under management and operations across 40+ cities, Keppel is well-positioned to deliver strong inflation-protected cashflows in a volatile global environment. Their diversified portfolio spans infrastructure, real estate, and connectivity—each aligned with structural global megatrends such as the energy transition, urbanization, and the AI-driven digital economy. - Sustainable Infrastructure & Urban Renewal
Mr. Chiang highlighted the importance of sustainability in Keppel’s investment thesis. The company’s pipeline includes projects like the Keppel Sakra Cogen Plant, Singapore’s first hydrogen-ready cogeneration plant, and DataPark+, a proposed net-zero data centre campus powered by hydrogen and solar. In real estate, Keppel is transforming assets via Sustainable Urban Renewal (SUR)initiatives across Asia. - Scaling Impact via Capital Platforms
Participants also gained insights into Keppel’s fund management strategy, with over 20 years of experience in managing private funds. Keppel partners with global institutional investors—including pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, and insurers—to co-invest in alternative real assets, creating a scalable platform for long-term growth. - Digital Infrastructure Expansion
Keppel’s digital infrastructure investments are accelerating, including the Bifrost subsea cable system, the first to directly connect the West Coast of the U.S. to Southeast Asia, and a growing portfolio of AI-ready data centres across Asia and Europe with over 650 MW of near-term growth capacity.
Thank you Mr. Jopy Chiang for sharing his invaluable insights and Mr. James Koh for skillfully moderating the session. Thank you to Mr. Antoine Sirgi, Board Member of the French Chamber of Commerce in Singapore and Senior Country Officer at Crédit Agricole CIB for his role in making this event happen.
