Past Event | Reducing Data Center Carbon Footprint: Balancing Innovation and Sustainability in Banking

Thank you to our esteemed speakers Hicham Chagraoui, Global Head of IT Operations at Crédit Agricole Corporate and Investment Bank, Kapil Pendse, Head of Technology for Sustainability at  Amazon Web Services Singapore, Jean-Pierre Viannay, Directeur Marketing at Legrand Southeast Asia and to Jean-Pierre Dubois, Co-President of Financial & FinTech Committee at French Chamber of Commerce in Singapore for facilitating this panel discussion that explored ways to reduce data center carbon footprint in the banking industry. 

The discussion highlighted the significant energy consumption and carbon emissions associated with data centers. Amazon Web Services emphasized their three-pronged approach to address this issue: delivering sustainable IT fleets, deploying cloud solutions for sustainability, and modernizing workloads to improve efficiency.  

Legrand, a global specialist in electrical and digital building infrastructure, proposed optimizing cooling solutions, reducing power losses, and utilizing performance indicators to reduce the Power Usage Effectiveness of data centers and enhance their energy efficiency. 

Crédit Agricole Corporate and Investment Bank shared their action plan, which includes incorporating CO2 metrics into project KPIs, implementing carbon reduction measures in existing infrastructures, training employees on green initiatives, and measuring carbon footprints. Additionally, the bank outlined key green axes for IT projects, such as optimizing service usage, minimizing data storage, sharing resources, adopting energy-efficient practices, virtualizing infrastructure, utilizing low-carbon external solutions, decommissioning outdated equipment, and practicing resource conservation.
