Sunshine and Sustainability: IFS goes green with TotalEnergies Eneos partnership
Singapore, 4th December 2023 – The International French School in Singapore (IFS) is ushering in a new era of sustainability and environmental consciousness through its transformative partnership with TotalEnergies ENEOS. With a shared vision of creating a greener future, IFS has taken a momentous stride by installing solar panels on multiple buildings across its campus. This first ambitious 0.7 megawatt-peak (MWp) signifies IFS’s unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship and is a powerful example for educational institutions worldwide. Through this collaboration, IFS sets the stage for a sustainable future and inspires the next generation of eco-conscious leaders.
The installation of 1,180 solar panels at IFS represents a significant stride towards embracing renewable energy and reducing the school’s carbon footprint. Powered by the abundant sunshine in Singapore, the solar panels are expected to generate over 900 megawatt-hours (MWh) of renewable electricity annually. Harnessing the power of the sun to provide clean and renewable energy for the school’s operations.
“We are thrilled to embark on this green journey with TotalEnergies ENEOS,” said Mr Jean-Marc Deromedi, President of the School Board. “The installation of solar panels at our school showcases our commitment to sustainability and provides our students with a tangible example of how renewable energy can positively impact our world. We are excited to educate and inspire our students about the importance of clean energy and its role in building a sustainable future.”
By harnessing the sun’s power, the International French School (Singapore) aims to produce approximately 900 MWh of clean electricity annually, equivalent to the average consumption of around 200 households in Singapore. This significant renewable energy generation will result in an expected reduction of 350 tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year, making a substantial positive impact on the environment and contributing to the fight against climate change.
This solar panel installation project aligns with the International French School’s mission to create a sustainable learning environment that nurtures the next generation of environmentally conscious global citizens. The school is proactively addressing climate change and promoting sustainability by partnering with TotalEnergies ENEOS, a company renowned for its expertise in renewable energy solutions.
“We are proud to collaborate with the International French School in Singapore,” said Elodie Renaud, Director of TotalEnergies ENEOS Renewables Distributed Generation Asia. “Through this partnership, we aim to promote renewable energy awareness and sustainable practices among the younger generation. By combining our expertise and resources, we can create a significant impact towards building a sustainable future. This partnership is a testament to our shared values and commitment to sustainability.”
The International French School (Singapore) is renowned for its dedication to providing quality education while instilling values of environmental stewardship. With a mission to inspire the next generation to become responsible global citizens, the school has taken a bold step by partnering with TotalEnergies ENEOS, a company recognised for its commitment to sustainable practices.
TotalEnergies ENEOS Renewables Distributed Generation Asia is a joint venture between TotalEnergies and ENEOS to develop onsite B2B solar distributed generation across Asia. The company has extensive experience developing and implementing renewable energy projects, making it an ideal partner for IFS’s sustainability initiatives.
Educational opportunities for students
The solar panel installation project at the International French School in Singapore presents a valuable educational opportunity for students to learn about renewable energy, sustainability, and climate change practically and engagingly. It demonstrates the potential of renewable energy sources to provide a sustainable and reliable alternative to traditional fossil fuels. It helps to inspire the next generation of leaders and innovators in the field of clean energy.
“As educators, we have a responsibility to equip our students with the knowledge and skills they need to navigate a rapidly changing world,” said IFS Principal Mr David Binan. “Our partnership with TotalEnergies ENEOS allows us to embrace renewable energy and provides an invaluable educational opportunity. Integrating sustainability and clean energy concepts into our curriculum empowers our students to become environmentally conscious leaders who will shape a brighter future for all.”
Students will learn about the technology and equipment used in the solar panel system, including how the panels work, how the energy is stored, and how it is converted into usable electricity. This knowledge can be applied to a wide range of academic disciplines, including science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
The International French School and TotalEnergies ENEOS are excited about the potential of this partnership and its ability to shape a brighter and greener future for the school community and beyond. The installation of solar panels, expected to generate over 900 MWh of renewable electricity annually, and the reduction of 350 tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year underline the significant steps being taken towards a sustainable campus.
