JCDecaux Singapore Launches SVHC-Free Materials and Sets New Standards with REACH-Compliant Campaigns
Singapore, 1 July 2024 – JCDecaux Singapore (JCDecaux), the No. 1 Out-of-Home media company in Singapore and a subsidiary of the JCDecaux Group, announces a significant step forward towards a greener future. Starting immediately, all non-digital campaigns across Changi Airport, Malls, and large-format media platforms will utilize materials that are free from SVHC (Substances of Very High Concern) and comply with the European Regulation known as REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation, and Restriction of Chemicals).
This pivotal shift aligns with JCDecaux’s commitment to environmental responsibility and reinforces evolving expectations within the out-of-home advertising industry and beyond. The adoption of SVHC-free and REACH-compliant materials not only ensures a safer environment but also empowers their clients. Advertisers now have the option to display SVHC-Free and REACH Compliance logos on their artworks, showcasing their commitment to sustainable practices.
Evlyn Yang, Managing Director, JCDecaux Singapore, says, “As a leader in outdoor advertising, JCDecaux brings together consumers, brands and economic partners. The ability of our media to influence comes with a responsibility to amplify positive messages, to highlight solutions to societal and environmental challenges and to encourage behavioural changes so that everyone becomes a stakeholder for positive change.”
JCDecaux fosters environmentally responsible initiatives through strategic collaborations with leading companies, carefully selecting partners committed to responsible business practices and innovation. By seamlessly integrating eco-friendly measures into every step of the production process, JCDecaux enhances its operational efficiencies and reduces its environmental impact.
“Our partnership with Green Lab is built on several years of collaboration and shares a unified sustainability vision through meaningful innovation and commitment to environmental stewardship. With Green Lab's expertise in eco-conscious printing technologies and JCDecaux's expansive media networks, this partnership aims to transform urban environments with the goal of actively engaging all stakeholders in the pursuit of a more resilient future.” – Evlyn Yang, Managing Director, JCDecaux Singapore.
“In our endeavour to eliminate single-use plastics and develop a wide range of sustainable packaging products under Green Lab, we have also simultaneously conducted extensive R&D on creating greener alternatives for our large-format printing options. Our research has led to the development of SVHC-free print materials within a renewable supply chain environment. We are proud to support JCDecaux in its transition to SVHC-free materials, meeting the stringent requirements of the EU's REACH compliance framework.” – Muralikrishnan Rangan, CEO & Founder, Green Lab.
JCDecaux’s dedication to sustainability extends beyond adopting new materials and is deeply embedded in the company’s strategic vision. Establishing a group-level goal to achieve Net Zero carbon emissions by 2050, aligning with the Paris Agreement and ambitious targets for 2030, highlights the proactive approach to environmental stewardship.
Key local initiatives in 2023 have played a crucial role in advancing these goals and include:
- RE100 Commitment: Since 2019, JCDecaux has powered all its operations with 100% renewable energy.
- Waste Management: The company achieved a significant milestone with 100% of its waste being sorted for recycling or recovery.
- Carbon Efficiency: JCDecaux has consistently maintained a carbon footprint of just 218 grams of CO2 emissions per kilometre, meeting its targeted sustainability objectives.
These efforts are part of JCDecaux's broader strategy to embody responsible environmental practices as a media owner, employer, and partner, actively contributing to global sustainability.
