French startup Bizsu Pte. Ltd collaborates with Shangri-La Hotel
Bizsu Pte. Ltd, a company that helps corporations create business opportunities in the sphere of sustainability, has announced a new partnership with Shangri-La Hotel to supply its main restaurant with health food spirulina.
Spirulina is a microalgae which is known as the leading source of proteins, vitamins, and minerals in the world. Researchers have established that spirulina has other benefits, including antiviral effects.
Brice, the General Manager of Bizsu Pte. Ltd, distributor of Spring Spirulina brand products, expressed his delight following the partnership and indicated that it is in line with the organization’s flexible and open collaboration policy, aimed at promoting mutual support with other enterprises.
On behalf of the hotel, Damian Piedrahita, the restaurant's vegan chef, who orders and cooks the spirulina, said, “This is the best spirulina I have tried in the market.”
Spirulina to Help Fight Antiviral Effects
Spirulina has been linked with potential symptom mitigation of viral infections, including the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). In one of the studies done by NASA and the European Space Agency to quantify the benefits of incorporating spirulina into astronauts' diets in spaceships, the microalgae were found to have the following effects:
- Antioxidant functions: Spirulina improves the antioxidant enzymes such as SOD, CAT, GSH, GSH-PX, and reduce lipid peroxidation (MDA).
- Immunomodulatory effect: The microalgae increases the phagocytic potential of microphages that help with the faster production of antibodies.
- Inhibitory-effect on viral infections: Spirulina was also found to help inhibit the binding of virus-induced syncytium formation. It also showed a strong anti-viral effect in keratinocytes.
These combined effects show that spirulina is a reliable multi-functional nutritional treatment and support in the face of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.
